If in case you are wondering about what will be the best time to visit Udaipur, then my reply is that we never have off-season in Udaipur. If in case we look at Udaipur weather by month, you will find different charms in different weather in Udaipur. Udaipur winter attractions could be a little chill in weather and option of exploring Mewari cuisine / Udaipur cuisine which could be anything from traditional like hot jaggery or Rabari (made from buttermilk and corn). Whereas Udaipur monsoon travel means visiting sweet shops and enjoying hot sweets like Rabadi Malpua or hot gulab Jamuns.
Udaipur summer activities for food enthusiasts will be enjoying kulfies, shakes, lassi and cold coffees at popular food outlets. It is not only the weather change in udaipur that appeal visitors, Udaipur festivals also have a different charm for people looking to explore the city. Udaipur Diwali celebration or Udaipur New Year’s Eve bring festivities in city and the locals step out of there houses to celebrate them to the maximum. All the markets are decorated with lighting and evening drives enjoying the fairy lights is something which is special to old city and some of older market like Bapu Bazar. As these festivals are in winters hence they add to Udaipur winter attractions and create additional options for travellers willing to explore the beautiful city of lakes. Holi celebration in Udaipur is also a big attraction for people looking to celebrate festivities, the entire city takes part in the celebration. Jagdish chowk is the central place where tourists in udaipur could be part of music and colour.
Apart from the festivals you can also be part of other festivals and fairs that promote culture and art in Udaipur. A big example of it will be Shilpgram festival which is celebrated from 21st of December to 30th December every year. It is a platform which has ethnographic museum that depicts the lifestyles of the folk and tribal people of the region. Visitors can witness culture blending with work of artisans which is up for sale. You can see smaller cultural performance in afternoons and bigger performance at open amphitheater in evening which is performed by artists travelling from different parts of India. At the same time you can shop products which are made by artisans who come from different parts of country to showcase their work and make some money.
There are other festivals also like world music festival, udaipur which takes place at prominent places like maji ka ghat, fateh sagar and Gandhi ground and has seen participation from musicians travelling from different parts of world, sharad ritu is one festival which marks its presence at the starting of winters and is a good Udaipur winter attraction, it is organised by western zone cultural centre (WZCC). It is a fusion of delicious food and ear soothing music which welcomes winter in the beautiful city of lakes. It also holds a lot of potential for the tourists travelling to Udaipur as they can enjoy the city with alternative itinerary. A similar festival called Ritu Basant is celebrated welcoming spring in the city of udaipur. It is celebrated by WZCC and could be best time to visit Udaipur by travellers who are looking for an activity which is calming their senses and is different from routine cultural programs, light and sound shows or sunsets.
The list of festivities, weather specific activities and culinary tours is never exhausting and i will try to cover them in upcoming blogs.
